ESPN STAR lands elite cricket contract
November 18, 2008 ESPN STAR Sports, a leading sports broadcaster in Asia, on Tuesday won a 10-year television production contract for the elite cricket Champions League T20 tournament, which begins Dec. 3 in India. ESS will telecast the championship in high-definition, a first for any sporting event in India, using as many as 34 cameras at each venue to cover all the matches -- more than the number used to cover any multivenue cricket tournament to date, the company said in a statement. The network also will use slow-motion cameras, player and umpire microphones, cameras in the dugout and the crowd, a new suite of graphics for the broadcast and a special tournament anthem by A.R. Rahman, composer of the musical "Bombay Dreams."
